it seems it worked out, as popeye feels kinda like a smaller, but more polished version of donkey kong all things considered? i especially like the graphics-it's a little odd how the stage is 2:2 resolution and the character sprites are 1:1, but it gives it a very distinct art style and feeling, and the sprites are just very expressive all things considered that i don't think they'd work in a 2:2 resolution. ironically, this game shows that after Nintendo proved their worth with donkey kong being a smash hit, the popeye licensers were glad to collaborate for a game by 1982. in fact, donkey Kong was originally conceptualized as a popeye game, but they failed to get the license, so they made the characters oh donkey Kong, pauline (then "lady"), and mario (then "jumpman"), and dk released in 1981. but this wasn't always the case, and early on Nintendo was more then glad to pony up with other ips. it's not much, but it's still a rather neato! Nintendo very rarely dabbles in licensed games, one of their most recent examples was literally hamtaro on gbc, so like that should tell you this is frankly a rarity, especially considering this was so early on in Nintendo's legacy. I suppose i can say a bit on the popeye game, as it's quite the fascinating topic. (except, you do now! it was a donkey kong country returns!)
